How can you measure a CD-R disc which contains no data? It is now possible in the new SA3 Advanced CD-R which measures the ATIP encoded into the pre-groove wobble signal in addition to the HF signal. The SA3 Advanced CD-R measures blank AND partially written discs in addition to other formats!
Tests for blank media include measurements of Reflectivity (REF), Radial Noise (RN), and ATIP CRC across the entire disc surface. Static and Vertical data include Push Pull (PP), Scanning Velocity (SVY), Track Pitch (TRP), Deviation (DEV), and Deflection (DEFL) at 10 points across the surface. In addition, Start Program Diameter (SPD) and Maximum Information Diameter (MID) are measured according to the ATIP code and Eccentricity (ECC) is measured at one point.
On non-finalized discs, the written areas are tested with all the normal Advanced functions such as Jitter, Time Deviation and Surface Presentation( and the blank areas are tested with the blank media functions.
